Sunday 5 21 23 morning call

Hookipa yesterday. The leftover short period N-NNE energy continued to decline during the day and it got almost flat.

6am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.

South shore
Barbers

    • 1.9ft
      , 12s, S 185º
    • 3.1ft
      , 6s, SSE 160º
    • 1ft
      , 18s, S 185º

Lanai

    • 1.5ft
      , 13s, S 180º
    • 2.5ft
      , 6s, SSE 165º
    • 1.6ft
      , 8s, SSE 160º

Small 12-13 southerly energy at the buoys. Barbers also shows 1ft 18s from the south, but it might be a wrong direction as the only possible source I found was from the Tasman Sea. We'll check again tomorrow. As usual, check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore

Hanalei

    • 2.9ft
      , 6s, E 85º
    • 1.3ft
      , 9s, N 10º
    • 0.5ft
      , 14s, WNW 295º

Waimea

    • 1.7ft
      , 8s, N 10º
    • 1.4ft
      , 6s, NE 45º

Minimal short period northerly energy in the water, while Hanalei registers a tad of long period WNW energy. It comes from the fetch indicated by the black line in maps below of May 16 through 19. Don't expect much from it on our north shore and get ready for an extended period of nearly flat conditions.

Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.
