Hookipa yesterday morning was excellent thanks to the light Kona wind. Ian Walsh.
5am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Lanai
- 2ft, 13s, S 185º
Decent size southerly energy at Lanai.
Check the Lahaina webcam if interested,
for size, conditions and consistency.
North shore
NW001
- 4.6ft, 9s, NNW 330º
- 1.8ft, 13s, SSW 200º
- 2.1ft, 11s, N 10º
Mokapu
- 2.6ft, 12s, NNE 25º
NW energy down to 4.6ft 9s at the NW buoy. In addition to that, today there's also some NNE energy that Mokapu records at 2.6ft 12s. That is something that will stick around for a few days. Below are the maps of March 9 through 12 that show the fetch(es) that generated it.
The difficulty of guessing the size of the waves locally (I do that daily for Hookipa, but of course every spot will be different), is that at the moment there's no local buoys that give an indication of how much of the NW energy at the NW buoys reaches our shores. I'll try nonetheless and call again for head high or more (was definitely more than that yesterday) and clean conditions for another windless morning.
Wind map at noon. The other ones can be found here.
