Hookipa yesterday evening.
This is one foiling wave at Kaa yesterday on my favorite surfing foil: the F-one Phantom-s 740.
6am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Lanai
- 0.4ft, 18s, SSW 200º
Lanai is recording a sliver of long period energy from 200 degrees. Below are the maps of March 13 through 15 that show the small fetch just east of New Zealand that generated it.
Below is the Surfline forecast that shows the small swell reaching 2ft 15s tomorrow afternoon.
Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.
North shore
NW101
- 16.3ft, 10s, NE 50º
N
- 6.6ft, 9s, N 0º
Mokapu
- 6.6ft, 10s, NNW 345º
The massive 16ft 10s from 50 degrees reading at the NW buoys is because they're in the middle of a strong fetch of active winds that are associated with the front you see in the satellite picture at the bottom. That energy is going to miss out to our west, so don't expect to reach us at any time.
N and Mokapu instead show the short period NNW to N swell in line with the forecast and should provide plenty waves all day on the north shore. Home guess for Hookipa is around head and a half to double. Conditions should be relatively clean in the early morning, but the frequent arrival of sets might make it look a bit stormy nonetheless.

North Pacific (about 4 days travel time from the NW corner of the North Pacific):
South Pacific (about 7 days travel time from east/west of New Zealand):
