Tuesday 3 3 20 morning call

I spent the whole morning at the harbor yesterday. Between and a shortboard and SUP foiling session I took these photos.
Brother Ken has a wonderfully low and centered stance.

Junior charging down the line at the Jetty.

Gnarly Marley tried two footstraps on his prone foil board for the first time. Didn't have a chance to ask him if he liked them, but I'm gonna guess he did.

4am significant buoy readings and discussion
South shore
Barbers
1.4ft @ 12s from 184° (S)
0.8ft @ 9s from 169° (SSE)
0.8ft @ 16s from 201° (SSW)

Lanai
1.3ft @ 11s from 185° (S)
0.9ft @ 9s from 168° (SSE)
0.8ft @ 16s from 198° (SSW)

Multiple very small southerly energies at the local south facing buoys, check the Lahaina webcam to see what's there.

North shore
Pauwela
11.5ft @ 11s from 74° (ENE)

Only elevated ENE energy at all the buoys, it should be a similar day to yesterday. Eastern exposures might still be too big, seek for sheltered places.

Here's a surprising statement from NOAA this morning:
Surf along north facing shores will be 5 to 7 feet this evening, rising to 11 to 15 feet tonight through Friday.
Surf will reach advisory levels along north and west facing shores tonight through Friday as a new northwest swell builds.

Really? I didn't remember any significant NW fetch that would justify that, so I went and put together the maps of Feb 27, 28, 29 and March 1. Yes, there is a WNW/NW fetch, but not one that would generate a swell not even close to advisory level. Surfline seems to support my skepticism, by indicating a swell that yes should pick up tonight and last all week, but only up to a couple of feet! I usually trust the NOAA, but I'm not sure where they got that prediction. Maybe the fetch got stronger between my 24h spaced samples and maybe they have access to satellite outputs that read some high seas, but I'm still very doubtful... where's uncle Pat when we need him?! We'll see. For sure none of that will happen today, which, once again, will only see elevated ENE windswell.

Wind map at noon (the other ones can be found at link n.-2 of GP's meteo websites list in the right column).

North Pacific has a tiny WNW fetch and the windswell one.

That fetch down under is blocked by New Zealand.

Satellite image not available today.

Are you sure your NOAA report is recent? Here is what I get from NWS:
"Surf along north and west facing shores will remain very small through the week and into the weekend, although some wrap from the trade wind swell is expected through Tuesday."
