Monday 12 27 21 morning call

Thanks to Jon, Lorraine and Jan for the donations.

The last week of the year is when I remind the readers that they can show their appreciation for the work done during 2021 with a donation. Thank you.

Hookipa yesterday morning.

A busy moment at the Kahului harbor.

This is Cloudbreak at Christmas (photo by Joli Wilson).

This swell was created by the fetch in the collage below of the maps of Dec 21 and 22 on which I also put an F and an H to indicate the positions of Fiji and Hawaii. Is it going to make it all the way to us? Technically yes, but it ain't gonna look like that... 1.5ft 15s predicted by Surfline on Wednesday.
3am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
Barbers
1.1ft @ 14s from 189° (S)

Small long period southerly energy at Barbers. Check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency.

North shore
NW101
5.2ft @ 14s from 308° (WNW)

N

9.8ft @ 10s from 49° (NE)
5.9ft @ 7s from 70° (ENE)
1.9ft @ 15s from 37° (NE)

Hanalei

8.8ft @ 10s from 37° (NE)
4.4ft @ 6s from 68° (ENE)

Hilo

6.6ft @ 9s from 26° (NNE)
6ft @ 11s from 25° (NNE)

Kaneohe Bay

8.6ft @ 10s from 34° (NE)
2.6ft @ 4s from 58° (ENE)

New WNW swell picked up at the NW buoys. Below are the maps of Dec 24 and 25 showing the fetch that generated it. The relative vicinity will make it the largest of a series of relatively small WNW to NW swells arriving throughout the week.

Below are the graph of NW101 together with the Surfline forecast showing a peak tomorrow morning at 4.1ft 15s from 308.

Hookipa (and, given the direction, only Hookipa) should see forerunners from this swell this afternoon. It's going to be hard to see them in the midst of the still elevated NNE to NE energies in the water. Maybe at sunset.
Home guess for Hookipa (and eastern exposures, which I forgot to mention in the last 10 days or so) is for the at this point "usual" head and a half average (but head to double range).

Forecast of Pauwela from this PACIOOS page.
