Thursday 12 30 21 morning call

The last week of the year is when I remind the readers that they can show their appreciation for the work done during 2021 with a donation. Thank you.

Nice bottom to top turn combo at Hookipa yesterday by what appears to be Nora Liotta (not 100% sure though).

4am Surfline significant buoy readings and discussion.
South shore
No southerly energy at Barbers, check the Lahaina webcam if interested, for size, conditions and consistency. As you will see, we didn't get much at all from that Cloudbreak swell. But because of the ESE direction of the trades, the wind maps are calling for a windless day on the whole Lahaina side today, so it's tiny but very clean.

North shore
Hanalei

9.2ft @ 9s from 60° (ENE)

Hilo

7ft @ 9s from 58° (ENE)

Kaneohe Bay
7.2ft @ 10s from 52° (ENE)

The buoys only show the still elevated ENE windswell, but there should also be small NW energy coming from the fetch shown in the first of the maps in the collage below of the maps of Dec 26 through 29. Such energy should continue at small levels tomorrow and the day after and then possibly increase a bit on Sunday.

Below is the Surfline forecast showing 2ft 13 today and 2.2ft 14s tomorrow. Probably still too small to be noticed in the midst of the very consistent ENE windswell. Home guess for Hookipa is for head to occasionally head and a half.

Forecast of Pauwela from this PACIOOS page.
