Tuesday 12 5 17 morning call

Day of rest for me yesterday and no Maui photo of the day, here's one of those amazing Tahitian shots from Ben Thouard.

4am significant buoy readings
South shore

No indication of southerly energy at the buoys, the Surfline forecast calls for 1.4f 12s. I heard reports of waves in the Lahaina area yesterday, looks like the angular spreading did it again. Unless it was only a one day thing, there might be waves also today. Not sure if I'll end up there, but it's possible. Stay tuned for beach reports, just in case.

North shore
NW001
11.7ft @ 9s from 16° (NNE)
8.4ft @ 13s from 1° (N)

Waimea
6.2ft @ 14s from 315° (NW)

Mokapu
4.7ft @ 12s from 47° (NE)
4.4ft @ 10s from 47° (NE)

Multiple overlapping energy from remote and nearby sources on tap for today on the north shore. Unfortunately, once again, the wind will ruin the shape and make it look horrible. A front is in fact crossing over the islands as I type and the post-front winds are going to be pretty strong, as shown below.
Btw, that unrealistic huge forecast for Wednesday the 13th I mentioned yesterday, is already down to 17f 14s on Surfline. Never look too far ahead, let's stay focused on the present.

Wind map at noon shows the post front northerly winds. According to this model (link n.-4), they will start blowing pretty strong as early as 8am. At 5.20am there's already 16mph from the north in Kahului.

North Pacific shows a variety of fetches. Multiple remote and nearby sources are going to be the rule this week.

Nothing from the South Pacific instead.

Satellite picture at 4.30am shows that the leading edge of the front has already passed over Maui and we're about to get slammed by the strong northerly winds that will follow the trailing edge of it.
